Captain Md Shafiqul Islam Sarker, (G), psc, BN, a 1990 HSC batch of BAF Shaheen School & College, Tejgoan, Dhaka, joined on 01 July 1991 in Bangladesh Navy. He received naval training from the Royal Malaysian Navy. Captain Shafiq performed command, staff and instructional duties onboard naval Ships and Establishments in various capacities. He also commanded Bangladesh Coast Guard Ship MANSOOR ALI. He performed as a Nautical Instructor in the Marine Academy, Chattogram. He completed four batch sailors passing out consecutively as the Officer-In-Charge of New Entry Training School of Bangladesh Navy. Besides, he discharged his duties as Deputy Drafting Commander of the Naval Head Quarter, Chief Staff Officer of the Commander Khulna Naval Area and Staff Officer (Gunnery) of the Commander BN Fleet. He completed Staff Course from Mirpur and Deputy President Course from Inter Services Selection Board vis-à-vis other professional courses.

In personal Life, Captain Shafiq is married and father of two sons and a daughter. He prefers to read magazine, newspaper, books and play tennis during leisure time.
