Capt. Ataur Rahman has taken over the charge of National Maritime Institute as Principal (In-Charge) since 8th September 2021 and 16th February 2022 has taken over the charge of National Maritime Institute as Principal. Before that, he had been working as the Chief Nautical Instructor since 12th March’2013. Serving in that post he had rendered tremendous Contributions to the development of the Institute.

Capt. Ataur Rahman was born on 4th January’1975 in the Noakhali district. His father is Mr. Hafizur Rahman and his mother Late Mrs. Peara Begum. He passed his SSC exam from Agrabad Govt. Colony High School in First Division in the year 1990, HSC exam from Chittagong College in First Division in the year 1992 & BSc (Nautical Science) from Bangladesh Marine Academy under National University in 1st Class in the year 1994. Besides, he obtained his CoC Class-1 Certificate (Master Mariner) under the Department of Shipping in the year 2017.

Capt. Ataur Rahman is an ex-cadet of the 29th Batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy. He started his sea carrier as a deck Cadet on board Continent-1 of Continental Liner Agencies Ltd., Bangladesh in the year 1995. Later he gradually became 3rd Officer, 2nd Officer & Chief Officer after passing different certificate of competency exams and serving on board 13 different Ocean Going Vessels. After joining Govt. service he has undergone many professional courses and obtained certificates from various Govt. & foreign Institutes and organizations. After joining the Govt. service he made an official tour of China & UK. He was the Project Director of the Project “Procurement of Simulator for National Maritime Institute, Chattogram” & successfully completed the project. Moreover, he is an International Rated Chess Player & is also an Ex-National Chess player of Bangladesh.

Capt. Ataur Rahman & Mrs. Nasrat Jahan couple has two daughters.
