The information and communication technology (ICT) industry cannot be emphasized as the nation attempts to diversify its export portfolios, which will be one of its main difficulties in the post-LDC (least developed country) era. Since the government launched the push for a Digital Bangladesh back in 2009, the software and IT-enabled services industry has been rising quickly. ICT enables technology that makes numerous activities more efficient and affordable. Fast forwarding to 2026, when Bangladesh is expected to be graduating to a Developing Country, it will experience new set of opportunities and challenges, where, the ICT sector is no exception. In the fiscal year 2021-22, ICT sector generated US$ 1.4 billion in export earnings, which the government and industry have jointly set a target to increase to US$ 5 billion by 2025. Meanwhile, our home-grown ICT sector holds US$ 1.5 billion equivalent market share in the local market. The ICT sector is the key enabler of the country’s governance, trade and investment, in the face of new challenges and opportunities, the key factor for Bangladesh's ICT sector would be to increase the productivity of the existing workforce by reskilling and up-skilling for remaining competitive as it means more outputs generated using lesser resources. ICTs have significantly benefitted LDCs' development, particularly in the areas of financial inclusion, poverty reduction, and health. Overall this seminar will set an effort to discuss the preparedness of Bangladesh ICT sector considering the LDC graduation.
