Professor Dr. Shireen Akhter

Professor Dr. Shireen Akhter is a Bangladeshi academic and the first female vice chancellor of the University of Chittagong. She started working as the VC of University of Chittagong on 3 November 2019. Lone female member of Election Commission (EC) Search Committee, Ms. Akhter joined CU as a lecturer of Bangla department in 1996.

Ms. Akhter joined the university as a lecturer of Bangla Department after completing her PhD from Jadavpur University in India. On her appointment, she told bdnews24.com that she would try to develop Chittagong University as a "source of vast knowledge" in according with the spirit of the Liberation War. She took part in the Ekushey Lecture Series organized by the Bangla Academy in the following years: 1996, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013, and 1999: Refreshers Course, Kolkata University, India. She also participated in the discussion of art and literature program of Bangladesh Betar and Television and took part in the seminars of socio- literary and mass media based programs.
